Upcycled Boys Hats

I saw this really cute upcycled hat tutorial here and I knew I had to make some! I always have old clothes around that I can use in sewing projects so off I went to find some material. So for Benny's hat I used a pair of mens shorts that no longer fit Vince and a old Angry Bird Tshirt that had a big ol' hole in it. For Antonio's hat I used a plaid shirt that was actually part of Benny's Halloween Costume and tshirt that I no longer wear. The cute Robot patch came off Antonios new robot shoes that the dog decided to chew up this morning! GRRRR.. But at least I was able to salvage the patch.
These hats are simple to make and turn out super cute. Give them a try!!

Nap Time!

I have a lot of stuff to do and things I WANT to do so when Antonio naps I get to work!! Some days I get two hours to work on art stuff and other days only a half hour if i'm lucky. I am starting to get busy with making dog sculptures and ornaments for Xmas.

I have all these ideas floating around in my head for some cool skirts and i just need some time to get to it. I just ordered a ton of fabric paints, serger thread, and all kinds of cool fabric that are just sitting there teasing me!
I also had to design a cool poster for Vince's Holiday Party. It just popped in my head the other night to make him a marionette puppet  being controlled by his silverware creations. So once again, instead of doing my sculptures or working on my skirts I took a few hours to make this.

Happy Halloween!

 Happy Halloween everyone!
It was pretty cool to see my giant witch and clown head finished! Benny didn't think he would be able to wear the big clown head, so I made him a quick cardboard mask with sculpey details. It actually turned out creepy and didn't look too cheesy. I think we were heading to our second house when Antonio decided to rip off his clown nose! So Benny had no choice but to wear the giant clown head. Vince carried it(or wore it) until we got to someones door then Benny put it on. Everyone seemed to get a kick out of it!
I was going to make Antonio a bat, but nothing was coming out right and Antonio did NOT want anything to do with trying the costume on so I could adjust it. I got frustrated and gave up! I remembered Benny still had his swamp monster costume in the closet, so that is what Antonio wore. He looked super cute, but didn't want his picture taken.
Antonio loved the trick or treating part. He was a little trooper!

Plaster Heads are a pain in my A**!

Ok it's two days until Halloween and I have ZERO costumes for my kids! UGh!!!! The clown head which is now finished turned out to be way HEAVY for Benny to wear. So now I'm starting from scratch with a lame face mask made from cardboard and sculpey. Let's just see how that one turns out. HAH!
Antonio's costume is waiting on me getting my new sewing machine set up. I am making Antonio a Bat this year. I feel kinda bad that his costume won't be as cool as Benny's use to be. Having two kids seems to make things a lot harder and I'm much more tired!!!

Finished Head
I usually can't make anything scary. I do think the clown came out pretty good, but I guess that's because ALL clowns are creepy!!!

My Giant Witch Head

I decided to make a GIANT witch head for Halloween this year. First I started with a big punching Balloon and added strips of newspaper dipped in Plaster of Paris. After a few coats of that, I added the details by rolling newspaper into shapes and taping the crap out of them!
I added them with plaster and more newspaper over top. The Witch isn't as smooth as I would of liked, but I didn't have much time to work on my own costume. I still have TWO more costumes to make! I guess the roughness of the plaster works ok for the witch since her skin is probably all wrinkly and gross anyway!

Halloween!

I love Halloween! I especially LOVE getting to create unique hand made costumes for my kids and this year even one for me! Here are a few of my favorite costumes I made in the past.
Swamp Monster

Benny The Alien
I thought it would be fun if Benny drew up a design for his own costume this year. Here is his crazy clown guy that I am going to make come to life! Benny says his key features are his crazy spiked hair and blue tie. Ok got it!

As you can see I still have A LOT of work to do! So I better get back to it!:)

Anyone working on a handmade costume this year??
